There's something basically wrong here
How do you work that out then? Here we are, trying to get Ben, who is male, to give birth to to a baby that is the product of a the fertilisation of a free-range egg by a dead man who was killed by the personification of mortality summoned up by your flatmate in a weird satanic ritual. I think "wrong" is a little bit of an understatement. Okay Ben, stop pushing...

Move faster! Raise the tempo! | Well yes, Tiverton Road has won an award. "But it's not about awards," says Phil. Yeah, right. Anyway, in 1995 Guild TV entered episodes 7&8 (The Live Dead 1&2) into the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers' International Film and Video Festival. And it won a bronze seal! There's a nice brown certificate to prove it, and some rather sweet comments from the judges. One likened it to the short slapstick comedies that Hollywood used to make - and suggested that raising the tempo would make it more effective. Faster running legs, please. Another took issue with the "low sonorous tones" used to signify menace. At least he conceded that they seemed popular these days with filmakers and young people alike. So there. |
Scary! And stop humming...

Surprisingly, Tiverton Road has garnered some press coverage over the years. And some of it has been slightly accurate.
"No, you wouldn't catch me talking to the press..."
Down at heel digs | Birmingham's weekly newspaper Metronews carried an article entitled "Student TV station serves up a soap opera special" in its 18 March 1993 edition. Written by Stephen Dyson, the article quoted Phil Hayes as saying "It's about how an art student, a media student and a very religious student get on living in down-at-heel digs". Suffice to say Phil has never used the phrase "down-at-heel digs" in real life. Or ever, in fact. Other amusing inaccuracies include "41 Tiverton Road will only attract 3,000 fans." If only... Taylor Shelton's overview of Guild Television in Birmingham University's student newspaper Redbrick carried the immortal phrase "Phil keeps more than a tight rein on the show. He's team captain, manager, trainer, and has even been known to bring the oranges on at half time." It also featured a quote describing Phil as a megalomaniac. So it can't be entirely inaccurate. And Arse Magic (Issue 1 - some time in 1995) carried an in-depth look behind the scenes of episodes 13&14: Vampire on Campus. But then the magazine was edited by Phil Hayes, who produced Tiverton Road. So it's probably completely unbiased. But it does say that after its broadcast "another GTV member was asked why they were repeating the Young Ones..." |
Does this man look like a megalomaniac to you? |
